Description

Ariadne and On Road invite you to be part of an immersive All About Trans Workshop

Open to senior grantmakers, this carefully curated and informal workshop will provide a safe space and a unique opportunity for participants to connect with a range of trans people in the UK who represent different identities and backgrounds.

Why this workshop?

Despite the increased visibility of transgender people, there is still a significant amount of uncertainty in the ‘mainstream’ around questions of identity, rights, barriers etc. As funders who are working on issues that interconnect and are intersectional, it is important that we better understand this community. However, many of us are unsure about how to really connect to the issues and feel ill-equipped to make funding decisions that might affect the community.

This workshop aims to give funders a better and more nuanced understanding of trans people and the issues they face, with absolutely no expectations. It will give you the chance to ask difficult questions in a safe environment and hear from people of different ages, as well as parents of trans children, and to speak face-to-face with people away from all the noise and misleading information online and in mainstream media.

Background

All About Trans is a project of the charity On Road Media, a small organisation that improves media coverage of communities and issues that are misrepresented. On Road Media are the 2017 winners of the Third Sector “Small Charity, Big Achiever” award and one of the 50 Observer and Nesta’s 2018 New Radicals. On Road Media is not a campaign group, rather it connects professionals (journalists, educators, doctors, funders, celebrities) with people from different backgrounds so that, through conversation and relationship-building, participants gain a more nuanced and accurate understanding of marginalised groups and the issues they face.
